Break Down to Break Free

Faith, Life path, People, The Self

bouquetWhen it seems as though life wants to break us down – the truth is, life wants us to break free. To crack open. To release our grip from the edge. To let go of the only thing that has supported our existence so far – the illusion of control.

When it feels like life has grabbed all that’s left of us and we end up feeling powerless to stand up again and proceed – life is actually just teaching us how to trust, how to open our hearts fully and how to accept more help, more grace, more love.

The only question that matters is: Were you Brave?

Faith, Life path, People, The Self

diveWe can’t always be certain which is the right thing to do – if by right means getting the outcome that we desire.

But we can always be brave if we choose to. Brave to feel our own emotions, brave to admit the truth, brave to trust, brave to follow where our spirit is leading us into, brave to fight and persevere, brave to go beyond the limits we’re used to and brave to create new rules to live by.

Doing the brave thing may not always be the right thing to do – if by right means getting the outcome that we desire. But I can’t remember anything I made out of bravery that I end up regretting. Maybe it’s not doing the right thing, but doing the brave thing, that has only enabled us to break through. Maybe the rest doesn’t matter after all.

A Moment in Eternity

Faith, Life path, The Self

dive

Life only matters because of death.

One has to go through death first to be with eternity.

We only savor what we have because we can lose it; because we know how it’s like to live without it.

*

We should ponder over death more often. In fact, it should be a part of our daily routine. Not out of anxiety or drama but out of self-awareness and a deep connection with our inner and outer landscapes.

What’s the meaning of our life without the inevitability of death? Why would it matter that we are here if we’ve always been here and always will be? If there are no risks to the chances we take? If there are no costs to loving all that we do?

Will fleeting moments remain special? Would it still matter if we choose to show up or not, if we give our best?

You have nothing to lose

Faith, Life path, Life's Work, The Self

freshYou are gonna die someday.

In the face of death I bet you won’t give a damn about the superficial stuff. I bet what’s gonna grab your attention by the neck is how you can maximize all the time that’s left. I bet you’d scramble stretching what little chance you still have to engage with the things that matter the most to you.

I bet you’d drop your pretenses, finally, and open yourself wide to reveal the fullness of who you are. You are light.

So what if you get rejected – for speaking up, for standing up for what you believe in, for going after your dreams? So what if you make mistakes as you figure things out – isn’t it the point of living, to learn and grow? So what if people mock you for seizing the moments you’re given to step into your own greatness and unleash life’s abundance through you – who’s loss is that?

All these things that preoccupy you are merely distractions. Don’t let them dim your light. All this clinging on the status quo and being a slave of fear will not take you where you wanna be.

Step into the open. Leap into the night. Confront your own light.

Release your courage by confronting the truth – you have nothing to lose.

A Leap in Perspective

Authenticity, Career, Creative Living, Healing, Life path, Life's Work, People & Relationships, The Self

needleplantI used to think that the only way I could fully live a spiritual life and be in an ecosystem of inspiring one another was by somehow working in the healing/intuitive arts. Lately though, probably as part of my spiritual progression, I’ve learned that –

1. If that is true, then that is very limiting. Not everyone is in or even comes close to the vicinity of healing/intuitive arts. How can we reach those/everybody if we just stay there? I don’t think the Universe is designed to be that way. If anything, we should spread out, expand ourselves, immerse ourselves in unfamiliar situations, engage with people who are different from us in some ways. In the process, learn, grow, be more integrated.

2. We are, by default, living spiritual lives because we are spiritual/energetic beings having a physical experience. We CANNOT NOT be spiritual.

3. Where else is best to live this so called full spiritual life other than where we already are doing what we already do?

Now I think that the goal is actually not to be a healer/a guide/a mentor/or just a spiritual person by profession or by being validated by a particular organization or institution, but to be all these things and so much more simply by choosing to embrace our truest self, our essence – which is love and light – and to show up in the world everyday embodying these where we are and with whoever we interact with.

We have all been touched by “common” people in profound ways;

be it a hairstylist who has shown us great love and compassion when we’re heartbroken, a stranger in the bus who radiated joy and kindness when we felt hopeless towards life, a family member who offered us advice we needed at that time, a colleague who we never thought of as a friend but who suddenly got our back during one of our personal storms, a deceased artist whose works have inspired us to take risks and go for our dreams.

To others, we have played these roles, too, without us knowing about it. We’ll never fully know the mark we leave on each other.

We gotta check in with ourselves. If our inquiry and path naturally leads us to the healing/intuitive arts then great and that will surely benefit all of us. If not, we must have the faith that probably where we are right now is where we can best grow and be of service to others.

Forgive

Healing, People & Relationships, The Self

blueflowerForgiveness is inevitable if one longs to be free and fully at peace.

We may be blinded at times, mistaking our anger for self-love or self-righteousness, when in reality, it’s our last ditch effort to hold on to the past, to cling so desperately to what’s no longer serving us out of fear of the unknown.

Sometimes our inability to forgive merely signifies our reluctance to say goodbye.

We’re the only ones who can hold ourselves in prison. We have the key.

This process is internal. We need not even do anything interactive. No need to talk to the other person, not even to write a farewell note. This process may climax to a particular event – but this remains mostly in solitude. Forgiveness happens on a spiritual plane. It’s simply a release – of everything we’ve been holding on to that’s no longer serving us; our pain, our grudges, our disappointments, false hopes, regrets and all else in between and beyond.

It’s unpacking our heavy load so we can proceed with our journey with more energy.

If we wanna move forward, if we want to live our life to the fullest…we must forgive.

When Things Don’t Make Sense

Faith, Healing, People & Relationships, The Self

sleepingThere are times when I just couldn’t make sense of a challenging situation. I couldn’t rationalize my way through it to arrive at a logical approach/perspective and I couldn’t seem to unearth the lesson/s it has for me either. These instances make me feel all tied up.

In hindsight, though, when it happens it could only mean any of these (or all) three things:

The lesson/s are not meant for us but for the other person/s involved. We are merely an instrument in his/her/their expansion.

I could even recall getting a clairaudient advice, “Drop it off. It’s none of your business. Leave it to us.”

The situation doesn’t make sense to us because it hasn’t come full circle yet. We need more patience and faith to let events unfold.

When I say faith, I mean “blind faith”. Only that kind of faith can carry us through situations like this. No one can tell how long it’s gonna take before the dust settles, or what will happen next, so we must have the tenacity to be there for the long haul.

We need to learn how to be compassionate and love unconditionally.

Sometimes things just won’t make sense to our rational, human mind. When this happens, we must go check in with our heart.

An Open Letter to a Broken Heart

Faith, Healing, People & Relationships, The Self

the love

seaIf you’re holding a broken heart, if you’re sore, swollen, bruised, battle-scarred, torn apart – Know that you are infinitely blessed.

If you are hungry for affection, empathy, unconditional understanding and love and you know you are capable of providing that to someone/something else, if you’ve seen yourself love that way – know that this love must exist everywhere around you, and this love must find its way to meet you.

The love that you can provide is the same love that you need, and the same love that has the capacity to envelop you, lift you higher and nourish you inside-out.

If you see Source when you look at the eyes of your beloved, know that the one seeing – you – is the Source, too. How you see your beloved is how Source sees you – and a lot more, something immeasurable to the human mind.

Your broken heart may seem like a burden to you at the moment, but the truth is it’s your greatest treasure. If you have a huge capacity to feel hurt, it means you have a huge capacity to feel love. Let your infinite capacity to love heal your own pain.

Let the love you give out find its way back to you by directing that love towards yourself first.

Your heart is at the right place. All is well.

Jesus reincarnated in my life – to literally Sleep in my bedroom

Faith, Life path, The Self

needleplantI’ve been berating myself lately for taking the retreat I knew I needed, too. I’ve been feeling anxious; going back and forth in my mind, obsessing on finding new resolutions, new action points that could push me forward in my path. I couldn’t keep myself from asking the Universe, “What’s next? What should I be doing at this point?”

All I’ve been getting was the guidance to stay still, to allow myself to go through this process and above all, to have more patience.

Maybe the Universe knew that all its past efforts were no longer enough to hold me together. I remained anxious. So it sent me a more lasting, more concrete and a more compelling (and really funny) reminder.

Yesterday, as I was walking towards my bedroom, coming out from the bathroom, my view somehow brushed over the top of an old bookshelf. At first I thought my mind was just playing tricks on me. But as soon as I got closer to confirm what I thought I had seen, I knew I was right – on top was a sculpture of Jesus, sleeping like a baby.

I was raised a Catholic, and all my life the images I’ve mostly seen of Jesus were him crucified on the cross, risen from the dead, preaching in public or making miracles. So just imagine my disbelief and amusement when I saw this sculpture.

I’m not religious, but I have a personal affinity with stories about him. I think he’s a very wise and kind person. He’s someone I can be friends with, someone I can trust.

“How could it be there all this time and I haven’t even noticed? Where did this come from? And how come I noticed it now?”, were my initial thoughts.

Two seconds later though, I was already grabbing him by his tummy. I kidnapped Jesus and put him in the altar in my bedroom where my “good-vibes things” chill side-by-side. And he is, literally, the most chill one there now.

Since then every time I start to feel anxious again and lie in bed fully awake – I look at Jesus in complete surrender, trusting that he’s safe to take a rest as long as he needs to.

The Universe’s reminder can never be more clear than this.

An Ode to Free Will

Faith, Healing, Meditation/Visions, The Self

fernwaterThe force which allows us to have infinite power and freedom through our sheer free will, regardless of our faith or even the lack thereof,

The force which honors the inherent power and freedom that we have all inside, that is our divine right, something that have always existed beyond time,

Is absolutely not evil.

Is something that can be trusted.

Is something that deserves our unshakable, unwavering eternal devotion.

Evil is controlling and possessive. It is rooted on fear and lack. It doesn’t see anyone. It doesn’t trust anyone. The emptiness in its core is unfathomable.

But this force that is the complete opposite of evil shines so brightly that it’s even able to shine over the darkest depths where evil resides. For evil is the mere absence of light; where doors are shut and fists are clenched. Where separation breeds and expands.

Nothing is innately good or bad, because free will exists. We are the secret ingredient that brings meaning to any situation. The meaning we create brings all things to life.

We are the factor that matters. We are the only thing that prevails. Appearances may change, may mutate, may dissipate – but we remain steadfast in our evolution.

The gift of free will does not exist as a tool for self-flagellation. The Divine didn’t intend to berate us and humiliate us, and put the weight of the world on our shoulders. Free will is meant to simply make us…free – it’s that simple. It’s a reminder that we always have the power that we need at any given moment, regardless of how situations look like on the surface, regardless if we find ourselves alone or if we’ve got company.

Free will reminds us, unfailingly, of our divine essence. That we are all equal and we come from the same Source.

Free will is meant to be our compass, it’s meant to guide us back to our home which is Joy and Oneness.

May we all see the grace that free will is, and use it to heal and expand the world as we know it.
