An Ode to Detachment

One cannot grow anything
without knowing how to detach,
take a step back -
watch from a distance.

If one isn't able to do so
they can either end up smothering the beloved
or going up in flames with them,
or both

- either leads to destruction.

One cannot be too close
even to one's emotions
too close to be engulfed by its flames,
smothered. Disillusioned.

Purpose is good, passion is key
but one must know the self
has its own identity. It's never tied to outcomes,
never measured in productivity.

When all hell breaks loose,
when the shit hits the fan
It's the self that watches, reflecting quietly
All knowing, prevailing

- from what was left behind.
